The AgeDominant performances from Collingwood's star players have seen the Magpies comfortably beat the Western Bulldogs in Morwell to stay in touch with the race for the AFLW finals, in what would be their first appearance in the post-season. The Pies had lost two on the trot coming into Sunday's clash but they looked superb in cold and blustery conditions in round five, never really getting challenged by the struggling Bulldogs. Chloe Molloy, Jaimee Lambert, Brianna Davey, Stephanie Chiocci and Brittany Bonnici were excellent across the field for Collingwood and will be a handful for any AFLW side, given the form they are in, although conference B remains tight at the top with Melbourne, Carlton and Fremantle ahead of the Pies. Molloy, having played mostly midfield recently, was moved to full forward and caused the Bulldogs problems from the very start of the match. She kicked two goals in the opening quarter, the first by running onto a Bonnici kick into the forward 50 and the second a fantastic mark and set shot. Having played in defence during her first AFLW season and then mostly midfield this season, with an injury keeping her out of 2019, Molloy's strength, leading patterns and body positioning on Sunday were a reminder to the competition of her attacking power. The Women’s Game Collingwood and the Bulldogs played a vital game in Morwell, with the Pies fighting to stay in contention for finals after two disappointing losses. The Pies dominated for all four quarters and came away with a much-needed four points. ... Collingwood had 22 more tackles then the Bulldogs, which was a massive factor in the Pies coming away with the win. ... it was hard to stop Collingwood’s relentless attack when players like Chloe Molloy seemed to be unable to put a foot out of place. Regrettably for the Bulldogs, the Magpies just dominated the game for all four quarters and were able to come away with a significant and important win. Collingwood News The 2020 AFLW season, individually, has belonged to Collingwood ball magnet Jaimee Lambert. If for just one day, or probably only a half, another Magpie stole the show. Lambert still dominated – gathering 24 disposals and shaking off a big first-half hit – but it was Chloe Molloy's heroics in attack that ignited Collingwood at Morwell Recreation Reserve. The Pies' finals hopes largely depended on them winning, and winning well, over the Western Bulldogs, which Steve Symonds' side did. They had first use of the breeze and piled on three goals to none by quarter-time – two to Molloy – and were 30 points clear midway through the third term en route to a 8.5 (53) to 3.3 (21) victory. Collingwood has three victories through five rounds and will be no more than a game outside the top three in conference B, but Nathan Burke's Dogs are as good as out of contention. |
