MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

"Geelong's pressure tonight was outstanding. We struggled with it at times, we weren't clean. We were able to work our way through it, we did the right things at the right time. I guess if you're winning games you're always happy. I don't think we're playing our best footy yet and that's what we're all trying to achieve is play perfect football all the time. We're still trying to work out how all the pieces are coming together."  – Collingwood coach Steve Symonds

Collingwood further established themselves as premiership fancies after holding off Geelong by 11 points in one of the best games of the season. In a game dominated by fierce pressure and stoppages, the Cats threw everything they had at the Pies to nearly snatch a memorable win over their highly fancied opponents. But the class of Collingwood shone through when it mattered most, as the returning Chloe Molloy kicked two goals, Jaimee Lambert and Mikala Cann stood firm in the middle, and Ruby Schleicher gave the Pies bounce off halfback.

    Collingwood News

Collingwood has survived a scare from Geelong to win its third match in a row and extend the Cats' losing streak at home to 10 straight games. In a fiery clash, both teams piled on the pressure, each laying more than 60 tackles for the game as the Magpies held on to record a 5.5.(35) to 3.6 (24) victory at GMHBA Stadium that sees them move to the top of the ladder.

    The Age

Collingwood remain undefeated after silencing Geelong as they hosted their first home Pride game under lights at Kardinia Park. The Magpies triumphed by 11 points, with Chloe Molloy kicking two of their five goals. The Cats were looking for their first win after losses to North Melbourne and Carlton. Winless at their previous nine matches at home, Geelong were boosted by the return of Nina Morrison, Julia Crockett-Grills, Sophie Van De Heuvel and Georgie Rankin, who missed round two due to health and safety protocols. The Magpies made two changes, with Molloy returning and Bella Smith added to the interchange to rotate through the ruck.

"It was a good start. We spoke about it last week, because we thought our start was a little bit scratchy. We made that a bit of a focus during the week. It looked like we adjusted quite well to it."  – Collingwood coach Steve Symonds

Midfielder Brittany Bonnici has stepped up to the plate in the absence of Collingwood's co-captains, turning in a dominant best-afield performance to haul the Magpies to a 27-point AFLW victory over St Kilda. The Magpies are without Brianna Davey (ACL) for the season while Steph Chiocci (achilles) was a late withdrawal but Collingwood still proved too good to win 6.5 (41) to 2.2 (14). Bonnici racked up 26 disposals, 11 contested possessions, six clearances and 10 tackles to inspire the Magpies,as one of three stand-in co-captains alongside defenders Stacey Livingstone and Ruby Schleicher.

      Collingwood News

Collingwood delivered another statement of its premiership intent on Saturday afternoon, overcoming a week of adversity to routinely sweep aside a struggling St Kilda at Victoria Park. With a handful of key contributors sidelined – including both of its co-captains – to injury and the AFL's health and safety protocols, the Magpies called upon their strength in depth to overwhelm the Saints from the outset and cruise to a 27-point victory. Despite the absentees, reliable duo Britt Bonnici (26 disposals, 10 tackles) and Jaimee Lambert (25 touches) remained as busy as ever in Collingwood’s depleted midfield and set the tone for the comfortable 6.5 (41) to 2.2 (14) win.

      The Age

Collingwood’s AFLW premiership credentials were on full display at Victoria Park on Saturday, in a 27-point dismantling of St Kilda to keep their clean record this season intact. But a suspected concussion to Pies’ tall Erica Fowler and a knock to the ribs to debutant Imogen Barnett in the final quarter put a sour note on a game that had well and truly been sealed by then. Last year’s preliminary finalists, who were without forward Chloe Molloy due to health and safety protocols, outclassed the Saints, putting five unanswered goals on the board by three-quarter time to take an insurmountable 33-point lead into the final change. Collingwood’s ball movement was the highlight. After going at 65 per cent in their round one win over Carlton, they again proved too sharp for the Saints, picking off marks in defence and then using the corridor to their advantage to again register a disposal efficiency of 65 per cent. It was in the engine room where Brittany Bonnici and Jamiee Lambert controlled proceedings. Bonnici amassed 26 disposals, seven marks, 10 tackles and six clearances in a clear best afield performance, while Lambert was similarly as busy, compiling 25 touches and five clearances.

"She'll [Brianna Davey, knee injury] do some scans ... to confirm where everything sits at the moment ... fingers crossed it's positive for her. ... We've come here and had a Round 1 win and started off our season on a really positive note as far as a result, but we've got a really close connection with our playing group. We've got a theme of 'Family' inside our club and straight away it was like a family member has gone down and everyone's concerned for her at the moment."  – Collingwood coach Steve Symonds

Bri Davey’s season hangs in the balance after suffering what appeared to be a serious knee injury in the dying moments of Collingwood’s 19-point win over Carlton. Last season’s joint AFLW best and fairest winner, Davey, went down clutching her right knee as she tried to change direction when chasing Carlton debutant Paige Trudgeon. Collingwood coach Steve Symonds said Davey will have scans on Monday to confirm the extent of the injury. “There are mixed emotions for everyone at the moment, but she’s getting it assessed at the moment and will have some scans tomorrow to confirm where things sit,” Symonds said. Symonds said the injury had soured the Pies’ resounding win over their arch-enemy and all of his players were feeling the blow.

        Collingwood News

A suspected serious knee injury to Collingwood superstar Brianna Davey has soured a strong win over arch-rivals Carlton at Ikon Park on Sunday. Davey went down late in the fourth term while attempting a change of direction to lay a tackle. Collingwood's 19-point win was punctuated not only by Davey's injury, but three goals from 50m penalties thanks to some undisciplined acts from the Blues in the 6.8 (44) to 3.7 (25) result. A vocal crowd of 3,511 watched on as Carlton got off to a strong start, snatching an early goal from a clever Lucy McEvoy rove off the pack, but after that Collingwood took control of the game.

        The Age

A hush fell over Ikon Park when Collingwood co-captain Brianna Davey fell to the ground with a suspected right knee injury late during the Magpies’ 19-point win over Carlton on Sunday. Collingwood defeated Carlton 6.8 (44) to 3.7 (25) in the sixth edition of a rivalry as old as the competition, but it was bittersweet with the reigning joint best and fairest succumbing to injury one day after the Bulldogs’ leading goalkicker Izzy Huntington suffered a suspected ACL tear. Davey received a warm applause as she entered the race and the siren went. “It’s never nice to see anyone go down, we saw that with Izzy last night,” Collingwood co-captain Steph Chiocci said post-game. “I had tears in my eyes. We just hope Bri is OK… that’s footy. “Obviously she’s the biggest player in the league, so it’s going to be of significant impact, but we pride ourselves on the depth of our group.”
