Collingwood’s injury list is in a ‘reasonable spot’ heading into Friday night’s season opener against Fremantle, according to Rodney Eade.
Fitness clouds hovering over Jesse White (calf) and Ben Reid (calf) aside, none of the eight remaining players on the Magpies’ injury list have played more than 28 senior games.
Coach Nathan Buckley said White and Reid must train strongly on Wednesday in order to stake their claim for selection against the Dockers.
The club’s Director of Football Rodney Eade told collingwoodfc.com.au that the majority of the players on the injury list are expected to be back playing in the next month.
“We’ve got a few injuries but much of those are to some younger players and they’ll be back in the VFL over the next three to four weeks,” Eade said.
“As far as the players available for the seniors, we’re in a reasonable spot.”
Matthew Scharenberg, the club’s first selection in last November’s National Draft, is now off his crutches after undergoing surgery to remove a small bone in a toe in both feet.
While he is listed as being out indefinitely, it is hoped Scharenberg will be preparing to play his first match in a Collingwood jumper by late May.
Meanwhile, Sam Dwyer, Alex Fasolo and Josh Thomas have been ruled out of Friday's clash because of a lack of game-time during the pre-season. Dwyer made his return from a groin injury in the VFL last Friday.
