“We’ve missed his (Jamie Elliott) talent and smarts in front of the ball and to be able to have that sort of impact coming back is a credit to him. Clearly he was able to put the work in and put himself in a position where he could have an impact like that and to kick the winning goal is clearly an impressive performance.” - Nathan Buckley |
Media Clippings Collingwood has pulled off a daring smash-and-grab border raid, Jamie Elliott starring with six goals in a surprise five-point win over the wasteful Crows at Adelaide Oval. The Magpies were in South Australia for just under 12 hours on Saturday after being granted a much-debated exemption by SA Health, and the interlopers made the most of their opportunity, scoring a 12.6 (78) to 10.13 (73) win. With injured stars Brodie Grundy and Taylor Adams dropping out of the side that lost to Geelong, the 16th-placed Pies were given little chance of victory by many, but stunned the home side to score their third win of the season. In his first game back from a broken leg suffered in round two, Elliott burst out of the blocks with four goals in the first quarter and made it a career-high bag of six when he kicked the winner with five minutes left in the entertaining contest. A blistering performance from livewire forward Jamie Elliott has helped Collingwood record a thrilling interstate win over Adelaide by five points on Saturday. Elliott – in his first game back from a fractured leg suffered in round 2 – kicked a career-high six goals, including five in the first half, to set up the 12.6 (78) to 10.13 (73) victory. Jack Crisp was also monumental for the Pies, finishing with 31 disposals and nine marks, while Rory Laird (40 disposals) and Paul Seedsman (27 touches and two goals) starred for the Crows. ... Collingwood was able to hold on during the final stages to notch its first interstate win for the season. Collingwood has sealed its third win of the season, defeating the Crows 12.6 (78) to 10.13 (73) at the Adelaide Oval after a pulsating final term tussle. The Pies led by 23 points heading into quarter-time but were quickly reigned in by a potent yet inaccurate Crows outfit, before an intense final term saw a number of lead changes and the visitors eventually hold on for the win. It snaps a three-game losing streak for the Pies, who’ll face ladder-leaders Melbourne at the SCG in Round 13, while the Crows are scheduled to play St Kilda at Cazaly’s Stadium. ... Collingwood may have lost Brodie Grundy and Taylor Adams to injury during the week but were boosted by the return of Jamie Elliott. For a team that struggles so much to score, Elliott’s injection of offensive flare was noticeable from early in the contest, booting five first-half goals, including four in the first quarter. The sharpshooter finished with a career-best six goals and was so hot early that he caused Crows coach Matthew Nicks to move Jake Kelly onto him. |
