"I've still got a lot of life to live, and I've still got passions to chase. Collingwood will always be a passion and I always want to see it – as an organisation and the people in it – prosper and I'll be supporting from afar. There's a little bit of open space and blue sky, it's just what you fill it with. The club goes into the bye and it's a good feeling to go into the bye with. They'll come out the other side and 'Harves' (Assistant coach Robert Harvey) will take the reins and continue on its path. For me, I'll go in at some stage this week when no one's around and clear the office and consider what my next step is." - Nathan Buckley |
Media Clippings Nathan Buckley’s 218-game career as Collingwood coach has ended on a massive high note with his Magpies surviving a late surge to topple the ladder-leading Melbourne by 17 points in a Queen’s Birthday stunner at the SCG. After controlling proceedings for most of the day, Collingwood got out to a 20-point lead early in the final quarter. However, Melbourne strung together four scoring shots in a row late in the game, but luckily for the Pies, only one of them was a goal, to Ed Langdon. And after Brayden Maynard took a match-saving mark deep in defence with less than a minute to go, the ensuing transition ended up with club stalwart Steele Sidebottom, who fittingly iced the cake for Buckley with a goal after the siren. COLLINGWOOD has seen off outgoing coach Nathan Buckley in the best way possible, defeating premiership favourites Melbourne by 17 points. The Pies showed the dash and dare that has been missing on so many occasions this year in the 9.9 (63) to 11.14 (80) win at the SCG against a disappointing Dees side. ... Collingwood had a clear plan to avoid long and high kicks inside 50, instead looking for short options or scything kicks into attack. The Pies' pressure inside 50 was immense once the ball hit the deck, laying 16 tackles. Collingwood has written a fairytale finish to club great Nathan Buckley’s career in black and white, upsetting ladder leaders Melbourne by 17 points in his final game as coach. With Buckley departing the club following the Queen‘s Birthday blockbuster, many expected the Magpies (4-9) to lift, but not enough to challenge the almost untouchable Demons (11-2). Instead, they impressed from the opening bounce, leading by 16 points at halftime and then after holding a slender three-quarter-time lead, ran away from their fancied rivals. |
