THE KIDS
The Magpies’ first selection in last year’s draft, and No.6 overall, Matthew Scharenberg, is unlikely to playing before late May after having foot surgery. Tom Langdon, a medium-sized defender-midfielder, impressed in the NAB Challenge match against Richmond and could be a chance to make his debut early in the season.

THE IMPORTS
Ready-made midfield recruit Taylor Adams has slotted comfortably into the line-up, while Jesse White appears set to be the second marking target alongside Travis Cloke inside 50. Former Lion Patrick Karnezis is recovering from osteitis pubis and won’t be seen until late this month. The Magpies hope former Swan Tony Armstrong can provide some extra run from defence.

INJURY ROOM
The Pies have a healthy list for Round 1. Marley Williams and Jarryd Blair (toe) are unavailable and Paul Seedsman (hip) and Josh Thomas (knee tendinitis) are also recovering from injuries. Alan Toovey, on the comeback trail from a knee reconstruction, is likely to be in the mix for Round 1. Sam Dwyer (groin) returned in the VFL last week.
