Collingwood 2016 Draw and List Changes

Footy Experts - Adam Cusworth

Collingwood fans have plenty to look forward to in season 2016 after an active trade period saw them land a number of experienced players from rival clubs, while they also have a friendly fixture, particularly in the first half of the season.
The Magpies picked up the exciting Adam Treloar from GWS as well as James Aish from Brisbane and Jeremy Howe from Melbourne. Their departures include Nathan Freeman, Ben Kennedy and Paul Seedsman.
After two years of missing out on finals action, the Pies quest for redemption begins on Saturday March 26 when they travel to Sydney to take on the Sydney Swans at ANZ Stadium in Round 1.
They then face another 2015 finalist in Round 2 in Richmond, a game that shapes as a Friday night blockbuster, one of five games on a Friday night for Collingwood.
Nathan Buckley's young list have a great chance to familiarise themselves with the MCG and play at the home of football on 11 occasions in the first 14 matches of the year. They play a total of 14 games at the 'G' in season 2016.
Other positives for the black and white are that they only face the reigning premier, and their nemesis from recent years, Hawthorn, on just one occasion, which isn't until Round 23, while they play last years wooden spooner, Carlton, on two occasions.
Collingwood also enjoy their fair share of marquee games with the ANZAC Day match against Essendon sure to be a highlight as well as the Queens Birthday match up against Melbourne.
CEO Gary Pert had this to say about the draw-
"We are very comfortable with our fixture for 2016. From the point of view of our fans, it is definitely a great draw. Our members and supporters love the MCG and its big occasions … the days and times at which we play are also really fan-friendly, with five Friday nights, five Saturday nights, four Saturday afternoons and two stand-alone Monday fixtures on ANZAC Day and Queens Birthday. This is a fixture both our fans and players can be very comfortable with."
