Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury fears he has broken his leg after coming off injured in the 28-point loss to Port Adelaide on Friday night. Pendlebury limped from the field during the first quarter with what the club said was a lower leg injury then was substituted at quarter-time. The 33-year-old told ABC radio post-game he believed it might be broken because it felt a little similar to the pain he experienced when he fractured it previously. Pendlebury said he was really sore around the bone in the middle of his leg and the muscle around that was quite tight. “I’ve broken my leg before and it’s a little bit similar to the pain I experienced with that,” he said on ABC Radio. “It’s really sore around the bone and the middle of my leg and the leg muscle around that is really tight. I tried to run and kick and it didn’t feel right.”.

Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury fears he may have suffered a broken leg during his side’s clash with Port Adelaide at Marvel Stadium. The 33-year-old was subbed out of Friday night’s game at quarter-time after landing awkwardly during a first-term tackle. Pendlebury limped off the ground during the first quarter and went straight down to the rooms to be further assessed by the Collingwood medical staff. After emerging from the rooms, he attempted to prove his fitness by doing some run-throughs along the boundary line. But he failed in his attempts to be re-introduced into the match. Collingwood confirmed Pendlebury had suffered a knock to the lower leg just above the ankle. Speaking to ABC Sport after the match, Pendlebury said the setback felt similar to an incident he suffered a decade ago. “I’ve broken my leg before and it was a little bit similar to the pain I experienced with that,” Pendlebury told ABC Sport, as reported by broadcaster Corbin Middlemas on Twitter. “It’s really sore around the bone in the middle of my leg and the muscle around that as well is really tight. I tried to run or kick and it didn’t feel right. Hopefully it’s not broken, but we’ll get a scan tomorrow and see.”

Port Adelaide celebrated club legend Travis Boak’s landmark 300th match in style after overcoming a valiant challenge from Collingwood to win by 28 points at Marvel Stadium. The Magpies were hard-at-it early and showed splashes of spark in the second half but were unable to completely shake off the loss of captain Scott Pendlebury in the opening term. Pendlebury suffered a lower leg knock while being dragged down from behind by Willem Drew and was substituted out of the contest at quarter-time. Pendlebury’s long-time midfield rival Boak would never have envisaged an empty Marvel Stadium for a “home” match being the way he reached the milestone, equalling Kane Cornes’ AFL club record.

COLLINGWOOD coach Robert Harvey says the decision to use tall forward Mason Cox as the medical substitute didn't hurt his team's ability to run out Friday night's clash against Port Adelaide. The Magpies lost captain Scott Pendlebury to a lower leg injury in the first quarter of the 28-point loss at Marvel Stadium, with the star midfielder comparing the pain of his injury to a broken leg in a post-match interview. Harvey said the club would wait on scans before declaring the extent of the injury and Pendlebury had been moving around well post-match. The coach said he was happy with how his team had covered the midfielder's loss and the addition of another tall forward did not affect the Magpies' ability to run out the game. "We were a really young team tonight and we didn't have a lot in reserve in regard to experienced players," Harvey said when asked if he was happy with the decision to select Cox as the medical sub. "I know Mason was quieter and could have done more, but in the end I thought we were really positive in how we entered the ball inside 50. Through where we're at I thought that was the best call and that's the way we went. We looked like we were running on top of the ground, so I didn't think that was an issue."
