Round 21
Collingwood v Hawthorn

Tasmanian authorities have decided to pull out of hosting its scheduled AFL game between Collingwood and Hawthorn.

The game was set to be played on Sunday at the University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston, but has been canned over fresh Covid fears.

Premier Peter Gutwein announced the decision after the state recorded its first Covid-19 case in 12 months.

In response to the cancellation, the AFL has announced the game will go ahead at the MCG at the same time (Sunday 2:10pm AEST) as had originally been scheduled.

“The health and safety of everyone in the game and the wider community remains the priority as we continue to navigate the pandemic and the AFL thanks all supporters for their understanding as we continue to be led by the advice of governments and public health officials,” a representative for the AFL wrote in a statement.

Sunday’s game was set to be the Magpies’ first for premiership points in Tasmania in their 129-year history.
