Collingwood veteran Nick Maxwell will have his injured ankle assessed by a specialist.
Maxwell injured his left ankle during the second quarter of Sunday’s 64-point loss to Essendon.
He bravely returned to the field and managed to play out the match.
Director of Football Rodney Eade told CollingwoodTV’s Blackmores Injury Update that the extent of Maxwell’s injury will become clearer in the next 24 hours.
“He played the game out but has pulled up sore. He’s had some scans and he will see a specialist tonight," Eade said.
"We’ll know more and be updated in the next 24 hours,” Eade said.
Maxwell’s teammate Dane Swan is another player who finished Sunday’s match a little worse for wear.
“His heel, which he’s been carrying for a couple of weeks, is a little bit sore and he’s got some foot soreness at the same time,” Eade explained.
“We’ll be managing him over the next week or so and hopefully he’ll be all right for Adelaide.”
The news is better for several others pressing for a return to the senior ranks.
Ben Reid (calf/quad) and Alex Fasolo (foot) performed well in the VFL on the weekend as they mount returns from their respective injuries, while Sam Dwyer and hamstring victims Jamie Elliott, Patrick Karnezis and Ben Sinclair are all in the mix to return after the bye.
Quinten Lynch, who has been sidelined with a broken leg since 26 April, will undergo a fitness test after the bye weekend, as will Matthew Scharenberg (feet).
