Key forward Jesse White is a likely starter in Monday’s traditional Queen’s Birthday clash with Melbourne after being cleared of any major damage to his injured finger.
White suffered a compound dislocation of his little finger at a boundary throw in during the second quarter of Friday night’s 86-point win over St Kilda but played out the match.
“Jesse had what’s called a compound dislocation, his (little) finger dislocated and split the skin. It came out and actually penetrated his skin but he was able to put that back,” Director of Football Rodney Eade told CollingwoodTV’s Blackmores Injury Update.
“There’s no fracture, which was a good result.
“He’s in a splint at the moment but we’re pretty confident he will be able to play on Monday.”
Unfortunately he is unlikely to run out alongside Nick Maxwell, who will miss up to three weeks with a calf complaint.
The veteran sustained the injury midway through the first quarter and was immediately substituted out of the game.
“The scan is not too bad, so he could be 2-3 weeks. Probably, with his age, you’d probably think we’d err on the side of caution and it will probably be three weeks,” said Eade.
“It (the scan) was certainly best case scenario for us.”
Eade said Collingwood is likely to regain the services of Luke Ball (calf), Brodie Grundy (back tightness) and Dane Swan (heel) who each missed Friday night’s win.
The news is also positive for top draft choice Matthew Scharenberg, who is yet to play a match of any description since arriving at the Westpac Centre last November.
Eade said Scharenberg, still just 18-years-old, hopes to return in the next 3-4 weeks as he completes his rehabilitation from feet injuries.
