Collingwood is likely to have key forward Jesse White available when it selects its team for Sunday’s clash with the Western Bulldogs.
White sustained a compound dislocation of his finger during last Friday’s win over St Kilda. He was named to play against Melbourne on the Queen’s Birthday but withdrew on the morning of the match.
“With his dislocation last week, it was a compound so it broke the skin,” Director of Football Rodney Eade told CollingwoodTV’s Blackmores Injury Update.
“There was just a little bit of infection so he could have played but we erred on the side of caution with him.
“He’ll be available this week.”
Fortunately, neither the AFL nor VFL teams reported any new injuries from the weekend’s matches.
Eade said veteran defender Nick Maxwell, who sustained a calf injury against St Kilda in round 11, is progressing well in his recovery.
“He has started jogging.
“He certainly will miss this week and maybe miss the week after, which is three weeks which is a pretty good result, really, for a calf.”
Maxwell is estimated to be another 1-2 weeks away from resuming his season.
