ON THE BLOCK: Brent Macaffer did a job against GWS but didn't have an impact against the Crows and will be very nervous about his spot this week. Jarryd Blair had no impact, managing just three kicks from 10 disposals and didn't hit the scoreboard. First-year rookie Josh Smith (12 disposals) could be due for a rest after struggling at half-back. ON THE CUSP: The Pies will be hoping Alex Fasolo's jarred shoulder comes good and he's fit to play against the Kangaroos as the goalkicker was sorely missed against Adelaide. Tyson Goldsack was named in the best in the VFL and will surely come into selection consideration, as will Adam Oxley, who was also among the Pies' best. Tim Broomhead impressed again and Marely Williams is waiting in the wings. KATE SALEMME'S FORECAST: Collingwood was far from disgraced against the Crows, so don't be surprised if they cause an upset against a struggling North Melbourne on Friday night. Skill execution remains the Magpies' achilles heal, with missed targets costing it a chance to cause an upset against Adelaide. Fasolo's inclusion is critical as the forward line lacks the presence of a genuine dangerous small forward given injuries to Jamie Elliott and Dane Swan. He changes the complexion of the team and dynamic up forward. The Pies did nothing on Saturday night to suggest it's not still a team that can shape the top eight with game against the Roos (Etihad), Eagles (MCG) and Dogs (Etihad) in the next month. |
