"One of the key focuses in our group is the word 'improvement'. It's nice to win some games, but our major focus is just improving each week in what we're trying to do. We're taking some steps each week at this stage, but we've still got a lot of areas that we need to continue to work on."
– Collingwood coach Steve Symonds

Suddenly, Collingwood looks like an AFLW force. After three seasons in the doldrums, a change of coach and a less-structured game plan have helped the Magpies surge to a second-straight win to start the new season. Collingwood upstaged hot favourite Carlton by 15 points, notching the Pies’ first-ever AFLW win over the arch enemy at Princes Park. And there was some post-match sting when Collingwood defender Stacey Livingstone fired an extraordinary parting shot at Carlton star forward Tayla Harris, saying the Blues’ goal kicker was “useless” at ground level.

Collingwood News
Collingwood has delivered an exciting indicator of its improvement this season, emphatically disposing of old rivals Carlton in an impressive display at Princes Park on Sunday afternoon. Despite missing gun recruit Bri Davey through injury, the Pies controlled proceedings from the outset to secure their first ever NAB AFLW victory over the Blues and ensure their unbeaten start to the season continued with a 15-point win. A fast start in perfect conditions was the catalyst for the side's 6.3 (39) to 3.6 (24) victory, with Collingwood already eclipsing its win total from the entirety of last season throughout the opening fortnight of the campaign. Sarah D'Arcy was the most creative influence on the field, providing a helping hand on a number of Collingwood scoring opportunities, with midfield duo Jaimee Lambert (21 disposals) and Brittany Bonnici (17 disposals) also playing pivotal roles in the victory.

The Age
Collingwood are looking increasingly like the real deal after continuing their unbeaten start to the AFLW season, the Magpies getting their first ever win against their traditional rivals Carlton in the national women's league. The Pies' 15-point win on Sunday holds plenty of weight, coming in enemy territory at Princes Park against 2019 grand finalists Carlton, and notched without star midfielder Brianna Davey, who missed the match against the side she used to captain after failing to recover from a shin knock. Collingwood have been notoriously slow starters to the season in AFLW's brief history, but have laid a solid foundation for a maiden finals appearance with two wins from as many starts under new coach Steve Symonds.
