Collingwood is a chance to welcome back two members of its regular senior 22 when it takes on North Melbourne at the MCG this Saturday.
Nathan Brown (shoulder) and Sam Dwyer (knee) will undergo fitness tests on their respective ailments to determine their availability for the clash with the in-form Roos.
“Nathan Brown and Sam Dwyer both will have fitness tests this week and both, we’re reasonably positive, will be available for selection, which is good news,” Director of Football Rodney Eade told collingwoodfc.com.au on Monday.
This week will also herald the VFL debut of 21-year-old recruit Patrick Karnezis.
The ex-Brisbane Lion joined the club in a direct swap for Jackson Paine last October but has not yet featured on match day due to his recovery from Osteitis Pubis.
Eade said Karnezis is one of several players who are set to return to the field after injury lay-offs.
“This week Patrick Karnezis will be able to play his first game and be available for selection in the seconds (VFL) and then probably the week after, probably Tim Broomhead and Paul Seedsman will be available as well.
“We’re expecting in round seven probably another three or four players, so with no extra fresh concerns hopefully over the next couple of weeks, it looks like we’ll have most of the players back.”
Key position star Ben Reid, so critical to Collingwood’s spine with his ability to play at either end of the ground, is considered to be another fortnight away from returning from a calf injury.
Nathan Freeman, the 10th overall selection in last November’s National Draft, is still estimated to be four weeks from resuming his season.
The teenager sustained an injury to a tendon in his hamstring against Geelong in the NAB Challenge and as a result has been treated conservatively in his recovery.
