Notable
  • Josh Thomas has finally shrugged off the foot injuries that have ruined his first three years at the club and capped off his first appearance in the senior side with 13 possessions and four tackles. Impressive stats, yes, but even more so when you consider the fact that he wore the substitute's vest during the first half.
  • Time and time again, Heath Shaw repelled West Coast's attacks, often from the last line of defence. Most of these rebounds were by foot, as he had 22 kicks and only four handballs for the night.
  • Shaw's stats were in stark contrast to Jarryd Blair's who had control of the ball on 17 occasions but put boot to ball only six times (one of which was a goal).
  • Big Quinten Lynch played a terrific all-round game in what some Pies fans may call 'the Leigh Brown role'. Similar to Brown, Lynch shared his time between the ruck and attack and contributed in both facets. The former Eagle had 13 possessions, took six marks and won nine hitouts, and stressed his willingness to contribute to his team wherever possible in a post match interview with Fox Footy's David King.
  • The tackling pressure of several Magpies stood out, but Jack Frost deserves a special mention. The 194cm key defender laid six tackles for the night and his intensity in the back half helped set the standard for his teammates.
