Director of Football Rodney Eade said the 2011 Brownlow Medallist is clear to play after sitting out the past three games.
“Dane Swan will be available,” Eade told CollingwoodTV’s Blackmores Injury Update.
“He was close to selection last week but we felt that he needed another week’s training, but he feels significantly better and he’ll be available for selection this week.”
Prior to his injury, Swan had missed just five matches as a result of his body in the past eight seasons.
He has won an average of 33.6 disposals in his past five games against the Lions.
While Swan’s season is set for a relaunch, the campaign of one of his younger teammates has come to an end.
West Australian recruit Jonathon Marsh tore his hamstring tendon off the bone during the final quarter of Saturday’s VFL win over Essendon.
“Young Jonathon Marsh, who has been really performing well and has shown great improvement, especially down in defence, tore most off his hamstring tendon on the bone,” Eade said.
“Our medical department and the surgeon think it’s best to reattach (the tendon), so he will have an operation later in the week.
“It will be a 12-week recovery. He’ll have that operation and should be right for the start of pre-season.”
Marsh played 14 VFL games this season, averaging 12.6 disposals and 3.3 marks per match after being switched to full back early in the year.
Sam Dwyer, another hamstring victim from the weekend, will undergo a fitness test to determine his availability later in the week.
