COLLINGWOOD NEWS
Heath Shaw can accept a one match penalty for striking Fremantle’s Hayden Ballantyne during the second quarter of Saturday night’s loss to the Dockers.
The defender has been charged with a level three striking offence (225 demerit points equating to a two match sanction) for striking Ballantyne late in the second term.
The incident was assessed as intentional conduct (three points), low impact (one point) and groin contact (two points). It resulted in a total of six activation points, resulting in a classification of a level three offence, drawing 225 demerit points and a two match suspension. Shaw has no existing good or bad record.
An early plea will reduce the sanction by 25 per cent to 168.75 points and a one match sanction.
All clubs and players have until 11am on Tuesday morning to decide whether or not to accept the penalty on offer or to contest the charge at a Tribunal hearing, which is usually heard on Tuesday night.
Shaw, 27, has played 158 games since debuting for Collingwood in 2005.
He missed the club’s win over North Melbourne in round one due to gastro but has played every game since, averaging 19.8 disposals.
