“If you want a gig as a defender, get on our list because you’ll get a game,” said Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley after his side’s 34-point win over Carlton in round seven.
The coach was speaking in reference to the make up of his back six, which is yet to settle in 2014 due to several defenders sliding in and out of the medical room.
That’s all about to change with the anticipated returns of Nick Maxwell (back soreness), Alan Toovey (hamstring), Alex Fasolo (toe) and Clinton Young (corked leg) this week.
“Everything looks good at the moment on all four,” Director of Football Rodney Eade told CollingwoodTV’s Blackmores Injury Update.
“All four trained yesterday, on Sunday, and had a really good session.
“They’ll need to get through tomorrow, which is the Tuesday, but at this stage it is looking very promising and we would think all four will be available.”
Ben Sinclair, another small defender, is also in the mix to play his first game since suffering a hamstring injury against Sydney in round two.
“He’s trained very strongly and we’ve just got to decide whether he’s had enough football work on the training track to be able to play 2-3 quarters this week in the reserves (VFL), but the signs are looking promising.”
In other injury news, Paul Seedsman will undergo a test on his foot after ending the team’s last VFL game in a moon boot.
“It’s just giving him a little bit of grief, but nothing to be too concerned about,” Eade said.
Ben Reid is an estimated two weeks away from returning from the calf injury that has ruined his start to 2014.
Eade told CollingwoodTV the key position swingman is likely to make his return in the VFL when ready.
