Fortunately, the 2011 All-Australian has been cleared of any major injury to his troublesome leg.
Reid sustained a corked calf, according to Director of Football Rodney Eade, and is a chance to play again this weekend.
“Ben Reid was only going to ever play a half but he got a corked calf five minutes before half time,” Eade told CollingwoodTV’s Blackmores Injury Update.
“It was an unfortunate occurrence but we got the game time that we wanted into Ben.
“He looks like he’ll be available this week, which is a plus. He obviously can’t take a trick at the moment but he’ll be OK.”
Reid is just one of a handful of senior players who are in the frame to play this weekend after overcoming their respective injuries.
Jamie Elliott is in line to play his 50th senior game after missing Saturday’s loss to Gold Coast with a sore hamstring.
“We’re very hopeful that he’ll be able to play so he’ll be a test later in the week,” Eade said.
“His hamstring injury wasn’t a full blown strain, it was just like an overload, cramp type, so hopefully he’ll be able to play.
“Luke Ball had a tight back and was a bit tight in the calf as well last week so it was best to rest him. He should be available this week.
“Alex Fasolo has recovered from having his pin taken out of his foot.
“He’ll be training this week with a view that he’ll be available for selection in the reserves (VFL) this weekend.”
Others, such as Marty Clarke (concussion) and Kyle Martin (calf), are also in the frame to play this weekend, as is Sam Dwyer, who was substituted out of Saturday’s loss after experiencing groin tightness.
Unfortunately Nathan Freeman's comeback from a hamstring injury in the VFL was thwarted by another hamstring injury - but this time to the opposite leg.
Freeman was a late withdrawal from Sunday's VFL loss and is now tipped to be 2-3 weeks from mounting another return.
"He’s hurt the hamstring in the other (right) leg, but it’s not a tendon, so it’s a very minor strain, he was just doing it in the warm up," Eade told CollingwoodTV.
"We’re hopeful that it will only be two to three weeks.
"We play this weekend and then we’ve got a bye, so he may be available for selection for the first game after the bye, if not, definitely the week after."
